About
Chris Overton | Director
Chris Overton grew up near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, UK. His passion for filmmaking started at the age of 13, experimenting with a handy camera, making films on the weekends to entertain himself and his friends. He sold these films around his local estate, learning distribution from a young age.
Chris began his career as an actor, working on TV and film projects with directors such as Oscar® Winner Roman Polanski (Chinatown, The Pianist) as well as the late Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever, A Time To Kill), and BAFTA nominee Matthew Warchus (Pride, Matilda). On set, he closely observed their processes, jotting down notes between takes, which fueled his ambition to direct.
He made his directorial debut with The Silent Child, which went on to win the Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short Film.
In addition to short films, Chris has directed commercials for global agencies including Havas, FCB Inferno, Wunderman Thompson, and Beiersdorf, collaborating with brands such as Huawei, Eucerin, and Xiaomi. His debut UK commercial, the StorySign Christmas campaign, achieved immense success, earning seven Lions at Cannes (including four Gold), eight One Show awards, three D&ADs, a Grand Prix at Eurobest, and a BAFTA nomination in the Children’s category.
